NOTTINGHAM, Britain (AP) — American hockey player Adam Johnson, who showed up in 13 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019 and 2020, has kicked the bucket after his neck was cut by a skate edge during a game in Britain on Saturday, his group said. He was 29.

Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Pumas in a Test Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers when he experienced the skate cut during the second time of the Tip top Ice Hockey Association game at Sheffield's Utilita Field.

"The Nottingham Jaguars are really crushed to report that Adam Johnson has unfortunately died following an oddity mishap at the game in Sheffield the previous evening," the group said Sunday.

The Panthers would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Adam’s family, his partner and all his friends at this extremely difficult time. Everyone at the club including players, staff, management and ownership are heartbroken at the news of Adam’s passing.”
